In connection with Dhara police post in-charge sub inspector Neeraj Kumar having purchased a mobile phone without paying the full price for it, the State police may soon take stringent action against Kumar. The sub inspector had purchased a Blackberry mobile phone costing Rs 32, 000 in January 16, 2013 from a local shop, Mehta Watch Company, without paying for the phone in full.

The shop owner Pankaj Mehta had registered a report at the Kotwali Police Station and a case under sections 420 and 483 of IPC, sections 13(1) (2)d and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act was slapped against Kumar at the Kotwali Police Station on July 28.  State Director General of Police BS Sidhu said that a fair and transparent probe is being conducted after the FIR was lodged against the accused at the Kotwali Police Station. As of now, a team headed by Circle Officer Pramod Kumar is investigating the case. Based on investigation report, police will take stringent action against the accused, he added.

Meanwhile, CO Pramod Kumar said that after identification of the location of the mobile phone, a team comprising sub-inspector and constables was sent to Allahabad, but nothing concrete came out.  Police are working from several angles, he said. He denied that the mobile phone under question had ever been used by a relative of an IPS officer.

Sources, however, said that the location of this mobile phone was found in Allahabad and this mobile phone was used by a relative of an IPS officer there. Now, the user had switched off this mobile phone, it is learnt.
