The city police on Friday thwarted a planned protest rally of the Physical education trained unemployed graduates at the Secretariat. These youths have been urging that the State Government to create a post for physical education teacher in the primary schools of the State.

On Friday, hundreds of unemployed youths gathered at the old Raipur bus stand near the Parade Ground and after a brief meeting tried to take out a protest march. However, police stopped them and after a mild use of force arrested all of them including some women agitators. The arrested were later released by the district administration.

The president of the Bachelor of Physical education (BPEd) and Diploma of Physical Education (DPEd) unemployed federation Sundar Dhoni said that 75 members of the federation were arrested by the police.

He said that the members of the federation are sitting on a dharna in Dehradun for last couple of days and charged the State Government of giving false promises upon them. Dhoni also urged said the Government to come out with clear orders for giving appointments to them.

There are about 17,000 DPEd and BPEd qualified unemployed graduates in the State and they were demanding that on lines of the neighbouring States the Uttarakhand government should also create a post of Physical education teacher in the primary schools. In support of their demand these unemployed youths have been sitting on a dharna at the old Raipur bus stand for 169 days now.
