Cops thwart march of BJP workers on Canal service roads issue

The police thwarted the proposed Secretariat March of BJP workers and residents of Balawala and Nathuwawala on the issue of releasing grants for the Canal service roads.

The residents of these areas under the leadership of BJP Panchayati Raj Cell Digambar Singh Negi gathered at the Parade Ground on Monday from where they planned to march towards secretariat.

The ADM, G C Gunawant reached the spot and prevented them from taking out the march. The protesters presented their memo to the ADM. The villagers said that NABARD had proposed to build service roads alongside the Balawala, Nathuwawala, lower Nathuwawala and Mianwala canals.  The agitators alleged that the irrigation department is constructing these roads but the pace of works is very slow. They said that their repeated pleas to expedite the work have fell on the deaf ears.

The villagers said that the works on these roads is pending because the irrigation department is not releasing funds for the project. They argued that the conditions of roads in the disaster affected areas can be gauged from the bad condition of roads in the vicinity of State capital.
