The Doon police have started a campaign against beggars in the State capital. Six beggars were arrested and sent to the beggars’ home in Haridwar.
The drive has been started in view of increasing complaints against beggars stealing valuables from the vehicles waiting on intersections. While soliciting alms from vehicle users waiting at traffic lights, the beggars were reported to smatch items from them. Following repeated complaints of theft and nuisance on city roads, the police have started taking action against the beggars under Prevention of Begging Act.
