Taking action on the complaint of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal members, the additional district magistrate has ordered the police to stop illegal construction at a plot owned by the Waqf Board. UKD members submitted a memorandum addressed to the Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi through the district administration. They alleged that a mazaar and land around it located along the Chakrata Road near the Doon School was illegally handed over by some officials of the board to facilitate illegal construction on it.
This land was sold illegally because there is no provision for selling Waqf Board property. Party leader PK Dobhal said that after he exposed this to the media, the illegal construction was hastened up while the Waqf Board officials did little more than inspecting the site. He alleged that the illegal construction was facilitated by corrupt officials of the board and district administration.
The mazaar in question is visited by followers of different religions but this site had fallen prey to corrupt officials, states the memorandum to the Governor. The additional district magistrate (Administration) has directed the Bindal police post in-charge to put an immediate stop on the illegal construction.
