Trucks loaded with illegally quarried river bed material pass through roads near to police stations or police posts daily, but barring a few cases, police station in-charge or Chowki in-charge do not take action against violators, said a senior mining officer while taking to The Pioneer on Monday.
This indicates that due to nexus between police and illegal mining operators, illegal quarrying activities on riverbeds are rampant in the district. The officials inform that the criminals are informed about their movements as soon as they leave their office to raid.
The mining officers who wished anonymity said that trucks loaded with illegally quarried minerals pass through different police stations, located to riverbeds areas daily but head of these police offices do not take action against violators.
According to them, vehicles loaded with quarried minerals pass through police post located at places like Nalapani (Raipur), Nayagoan (Patelnagar), Sabhawala, Selaqui, Rispana (Defense Colony) and other places. Apart from this, police post officials do not cooperate with them unless they are being instructed by their higher police officer.
Due to lack of coordination from these police offices, illegal mining activities are rampant in the district. Recently, mining official seized a truck illegally quarried minerals at around Rispana River (defense colony) which was nearer to police post.
However, SP (rural) Mamta Vohra denied that police do not act if trucks loaded with illegally quarried minerals pass though roads near to police Chowki. Police are assigned with different works like resolving disputes in the localities, conducting investigation, solved theft cases and others. Conducting drives against illegal mining activities are secondary work for the official of police station and police post. In spite of this, several police station in-charges of Vikasnagar, Raipur, Sahaspur areas have lodged FIR against illegal mining operators, she added.
