Cops mulling over Govt recommendation for action against PFA member

The State police is considering the recommendation of the State Government for action against the People for Animals, Uttarakhand member secretary for allegedly falsifying allegations of anomalies in the administration of the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

The allegations are being inquired into and necessary action be taken based on the findings, said the State Director General of Police BS Sidhu while talking to The Pioneer.

The DGP said, “The letter received from Principal Secretary, Forests, S Ramaswamy recommending action against the PFA Uttarakhand member secretary Gauri Maulekhi is being perused by the police. It is stated in the letter that as part of a sting operation, Maulekhi had shown a staff member of Corbett providing narcotics to her whereas it is alleged that she herself had brought the narcotics. She had uploaded the clip of this sting operation on the net, which I have not yet seen. The allegation will be investigated properly and necessary action will be taken after that,” said the DGP.

On the other hand Maulekhi has welcomed the police investigation. “I am enthusiastic about this development and also plan to approach the DGP to request an impartial probe into the allegations,” she said.It will be recalled that Ramaswamy had written to the DGP recommending action against Maulekhi for allegedly making false allegations of blatant irregularities in the administration of Corbett

national park based on a sting operation.  The PFA had conducted a sting operation in Corbett last year and had alleged various administrative anomalies on the basis of a video of department staff talking about these irregularities.

Maulekhi had cited the sting operation to allege anomalies in management of the canteen, undue benefits being taken by the Corbett honourary warden, serving of alcohol in the national park’s rest houses in blatant violation of the law and improper dumping of garbage.

Her allegations were investigated by the Corbett deputy director and found to be false. She questioned the validity of the inquiry conducted by the deputy director of the allegations made against the administration of Corbett itself.
