Cops make no headway in recent murder cases

Dehradun police have yet to make any kind of headway in the murder of Patelnagar resident Sahaspur Village Development Officer Devesh Kamboj in broad daylight by unidentified persons on December 16.

Police have also failed to solve the murder case of a 65 year old person murdered with sharp weapon at his home by unidentified persons in Sahaspur area on December 12. Police have not found concrete leads from questioning suspects. In this murder case, the police have still not been able to ascertain the motive.

Not only this, Dehradun police have also failed to get clues in recent murders of two women -Neeru Saini under Dalanwala police station and 70-year-old woman Rajesh Sharma who was a relative of IG Ram Singh Meena under Patelnagar police station and the discovery of the naked headless body of a woman found near army family residences about a kilometre from Raj Bhawan and Chief Minister’s residence under Cantt Police Station.

This has raised question mark over police efficiency in solving the murder cases in the district. In connection with murder of VDO Kamboj, the Patelnagar circle officer Swatantra Kumar said that several police teams including special operation group have been formed and deployed at various places including Haridwar and adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh to nab the accused.

In the investigations, it has been revealed that family dispute led to Kamboj's murder. He expressed hope that police will be able to arrest the culprits soon. In connection with murder of a 65 year old person under Sahaspur police station, the Sahaspur police station in-charge Surya Bhushan Negi said that three teams including SOG and Homicide Investigation Cell are working on this case.

In this case, police are looking into several angles including his dispute with neighbours or property disputes. Dehradun SP City Navneet Singh Bhullar said that in order to solve murder cases, several police teams have been formed and deployed at different places to nab the culprits. Police will soon be able to arrest the culprits, he said.

Critics opined that daylight murder of two persons and other such cases have sent shock waves across the state capital, posing questions on the safety of the residents. These cases have also exposed district police’s claim about reducing crimes. Police should take measures to restore lost confidence of the people.
