Cops frustrated over newly reinstated Rawat Govt's move

Senior cops are frustrated over the newly reinstated Harish Rawat Government having handed over policing back to revenue police from the regular police in crime-prone Tyuni area of Chakrata region.

Notably, the administration under the President’s Rule set up a regular police station in the area at the behest of the Governor.

“We are shocked over the present government reverting back to the old grooves when the area is gaining notoriety as a haven of the criminals and drug peddlers,” said a senior cop who was unwilling to be named.

Sources said that several proposals regarding setting up a police station at Tyuni revenue area had been sent to the State Government from police headquarters. Senior police officers had also approached the Government to convince it of the need to set up a police station there to curb myriad crimes occurring there. But the efforts came to no avail as the Harish Rawat Government reversed the decision taken by the administration under the President’s Rule at the prodding of the Governor a few days after the political rule was restored.

A police officer said that crimes like murder, rape, manhandling and eve- teasing are on a spiral in Tyuni revenue area.  More worrisome is the fact that the locals are sheltering the criminals, police say. In most of the cases, revenue police seem to be unaware of what has been happening there.

Ill-equipped as they are lacking in modern gadgets to crack new type of crimes, they are unable to rise to the challenge, the cop said despairingly.

“Besides, some youths are supplying drugs through this area to other parts of the State and neighbouring States too like Himachal Pradesh.

Those linked to such crimes are against a regular police station come up in the area. And unfortunately, the State government has fallen prey to their machinations. This is really frustrating. Though aware of things going on there, we are helpless,” he said.

Recently a BJP leader Munna Singh Chauhan said that in the interest of local residents of the area, Tyuni revenue area should be converted into regular police area and a police station should be set up there to crack crimes happening  there  thick and fast.
