In the ongoing verification drive in private hostels, the police inspected 35 hostels in the Clement Town area in the last three days. Police found large number of empty liquor bottles and empty cigarette packets from these hostels. The hostel owners who did not verify the identities of the students were issued challans under Police Act, said Deputy SP Jaya Baloni while talking to The Pioneer on Thursday.
Baloni headed a police team inspecting the hostels of Graphic Era, University at the time of this report being filed. According to her, after inspecting hostels at GEU, she would inspect other private hostels of the city. Following the direction of Dehradun SSP Kewal Khurana to conduct verification drive in private hostels, Baloni led inspections in 35 hostels in the last three days.
Baloni said that hostel owners were given verification form and directed to submit it to the police station concerned without delay. They were directed to attach students' photograph with verification form.
Baloni directed the private hostel owners to keep watch on the students who move outside during night. A register should be kept at entrygate of the hostel and this should be maintained daily when students move outside or enter the hostel.
