The State police have not drafted any plan on how to deal with murder cases wherein armed criminals from outside Uttarakhand commit serious crimes in the State before escaping without any problem. Most of the murder cases in Dehradun and Haridwar have a link up with criminals of Bijnor, Saharanpur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. This has exposed the lack of police planning to deal with such murder cases and provide security to the residents of the State.
State Director General of Police BS Sidhu expressed disappointment at increasing murder cases in Haridwar and Dehradun. Sidhu acknowledged that crime cases have increased in plain districts. Regarding armed criminals and persons having arms license not valid in Uttarakhand committing serious crimes here and escaping he said, “We cannot check each and every person at the State entry point which would lead to public inconvenience. With the release of 75 per cent of total amount collected in penalties for traffic violations approved by Chief Minister, we will purchase high resolution cameras to check persons moving with arms in the State,” he added. At present the situation in the State capital is not under control. In fact, Police have not drafted any plan on how to put a curb on armed criminals.
Haridwar Police could not make any breakthrough in the 12-year-old girl’s rape-cum-murder case even after 10 days of the incident. In another case, Haridwar Police are clueless in murder case of a teenaged girl was found dead in bushes near her home under Ranipur Police Station on December 15, 2013.
Dehradun Police are yet to arrest the accused of murder of Patelnagar resident Sahaspur Village Development Officer Devesh Kamboj in broad daylight on December 16 last year. Dehradun Police have also failed to get clues in recent murders of two women—Neeru Saini under Dalanwala police station and Rajesh Sharma under Patel Nagar Police Station and the discovery of a woman’s naked headless body found about a kilometre from Raj Bhawan and CM’s residence under Cantt Police Station. Property dealer Firoz Ali was shot dead by unidentified persons at his home in Jakhan (Rajpur) on January 16 and police are yet to apprehend the culprit. These have raised question marks over police efficiency in solving murder cases.
