The Srinagar police arrested Saket Naithani, accused of murdering his mother, and presented him in the court on Tuesday from where he was sent to jail.

Saket had been accused of murdering another woman in 2009, but was let off after his mother produced a certificate stating he was mentally affected. However, the police now believe that he is acting as one mentally affected but is not suffering from any such problem.

Saket is reported to have killed his 70 year old mother Shakuntala Devi on the night of June 28. She had come to serve him food when he thrashed her with a log.

He ran away from his home after killing his mother. On Sunday his elder brother Piyush Naithani lodged a report with the police about his mother’s murder at Srinagar Kotwali with the police registering a case against Saket under section 304 of IPC.

On Monday, the police arrested him after receiving information about Saket being sighted on the road near Gawan village. The police team that arrested Saket included Srinagar Bazaar post in charge sub inspector Aniruddh Kotiyal, Govind Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Harshwardhan and Harish.

According to sources, Saket was accused of murdering a woman of Takoli village in Pauri block using an iron rod in 2009.

However, in that case he had been acquitted by the court after his mother produced a certificate of his mental affliction. According to the police, though Saket is acting like a mentally affected person, it is suspected that he is not mentally affected.
