Contractor's body found on river bank

The body of a contractor who had been missing since Saturday night was found in the  morning on a riverbed near the Kichcha bypass road. It is being surmised that his death was caused due to  a combination of factors like consumption of alcohol, not wearing a helmet while riding the two-wheeler and the cold during the night.

Khimanand Brijwasi used to live in a quarter in the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) and undertake the work of a contractor in the colony here. A native of Naukuchiatal in Nainital district, the 43-year old contractor had gone to Kichcha for some purpose on Saturday night. It is being deduced that he had consumed liquor and was riding back home when late at night he hit the bridge railing near the Kichcha bypass mazaar as a result of which he was thrown along with his motorcycle on the bed of the Beni river here. When the locals spotted the body on the riverbed, they informed the police about the discovery. The body could not be identified by locals and was identified on the basis of documents found on his person. The police also found a soft drink bottle with alcohol in it from Khimanand’s person. Since he was not wearing a helmet, the head injury he sustained in the accident and the cold during the night must have resulted in his death. The body was sent for post mortem examination to Rudrapur after which the family members took his body to his native place in Naukuchiatal.

Officials also point out that had Khimanand worn a helmet, his life may have been saved since the head injury was the only visible major injury. The contractor has left behind a wife, two daughters and one son with the eldest daughter being 12 years old.
