Welcoming the Uttarakhand High Court decision to conduct floor test in the Vidhan Sabha on March 31, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay has termed it a victory for those who have faith in democracy. Stating that the High Court decision was an apt lesson for “fascist” powers trying to depose a democratically elected Government, he said that the Congress is confident about its ability to pass the floor test.
In a statement to the media, the PCC chief said that the party has maintained its respect for the Indian judiciary and its faith in the democratic justice system.
He opined, “The High Court decision has given a befitting response to the unconstitutional conspiracy orchestrated by the Central Government with the use of money and influence to bring down a democratically elected Government. The BJP has a tradition of attempts to stifle the authority of democratic institutions and of acting to the detriment of democratic institutions”.
The PCC chief further alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah were trying to run an authoritarian Government in the nation.
He stated, “They have no faith in either the institution of democracy or the Indian judicial system. PM Narendra Modi is meddling with the principles of the Indian Constitution and destroying constitutional bodies.”
“The High Court giving time for the Congress to prove its majority in the Vidhan Sabha also substantiates our contention that the BJP had acted in a revengeful manner on a conspiracy to use unconstitutional means for bringing down the democratically elected Government in Uttarakhand headed by Harish Rawat as Chief Minister. We are confident that the party will establish its position and prove its majority in the Vidhan Sabha,” he added.
Regarding the present communication status between the Congress and its nine turncoat MlAs, the PCC chief spokesman Mathura Datt Joshi said that maintaining communication between the party and its MlAs is a normal feature of politics.
He said, “We are confident that we will be able to pass the floor test on March 31. The Congress also believes that its stance will be proven and substantiated in the court of law,” averred Joshi.
