The Congress legislators would raise the issue of Lokayukta forcefully during the Winter Session of Uttarakhand Assembly which is starting from Tuesday. The leader congress legislature party and leader of opposition, Indira Hridayesh told media persons at her office on Monday that the State Government is not serious on Lokayukta.

She said that ‘Lokayukta bill’ was placed by the State Government in the Assembly but later it was sent to the select committee. “Not even a single meeting of the committee of which I am also a part, has been convened which clearly shows the intention of the Government with ‘zero tolerance on corruption’ rhetoric,’’ she said.

Hridayesh said that the recent sting CD episode in which the Government arrested head of a news channel cast its shadow on the office of CM also. She added that the State should have its Lokayukta as the CM of the State is also within its purview.

The LoP in the State Assembly said that the congress party would raise the issue of corruption and question the government on delay in Lokayukta. She also raised a question mark on the Government for keeping the session short and added that the session should run for at least seven days.

Hridayesh charged that the State Government has failed on all fronts and it is not in the position to pay for the salaries of the employees.

She also took the Government to task on changing the place of the ISBT Haldwani even though a sum of Rs 80 crore was spent on it by the previous Congress government. Hridayesh launched a scathing attack on the State Government for including 70 villages in Dehradun Municipal Corporation and 20 in Haldwani and termed the action a conspiracy to win the election.

The deputy leader of Congress legislature party Karan Mahara said the BJP leaders used money and official machinery in the recently held Urban Local Bodies elections.
