In protest against what it calls failure of government on all fronts, the state unit of Congress would stage a major protest in provisional state capital Dehradun on July 15. Informing about the Congress plans, the party spokesman RP Raturi said that the party workers would start a march from the state party office under leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh which after covering Clock Tower would end at Gandhi Park where a massive demonstration would be held.
He said that the party would protest against rising price rise and increase in prices of petrol and diesel which would give a further fillip to rising prices.
Raturi added that the party would also register its protest on the proposed amendments in the Panchayati Raj act on the day. “ by not allowing those who are having three children from contesting Panchayat elections and not setting any time, the state government has murdered democracy,’’ he said. Raturi added that the Congress would also protest on increasing unemployment and failure of state government to listen to the problems faced by the unemployed.
The party workers would also register their protest on setting up development authorities in all parts of the state due to which people in rural areas have been left to the mercy of officials even for small construction.
Former MLA, Rajkumar said that in the elections of urban local bodies the BJP had promised that it would regularise the slums but no action on it has been taken yet.
He alleged that the authorities had failed to remove silt from Rispana and Bindal rivers before monsoon.
Rajkumar said that potholes on the roads of Dehradun were also not filled by authorities before rainy season and now they pose a great danger to commuters.
