A Congress delegation led by Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay submitted a memorandum addressed to the President condemning the terrorist attack in Pathankot in addition to criticising the Central Government for price rise, cuts in budgetary allocation to Uttarakhand and not approving funds for the Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar. The delegation presented the memorandum to governor Krishan Kant Paul at the Raj Bhawan here on Tuesday.
In the memorandum to the president, the PCC has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pathankot while also assuring the party’s complete support to the government in its attempts to tackle terrorism. The PCC chief said that considering Pakistan’s continued terror acts against India, it was inappropriate for the prime minister to visit Pakistan without taking the parliament and public into confidence. The memorandum states, “The Central Government had assured reduction in price of petroleum products and control of price rise to provide relief to the common citizen. At a time when there has been a 75 per cent drop in crude oil prices in the international market, the Centre has kept petrol and diesel prices high to benefit the oil companies while also raising the cooking gas price.”
The memorandum reiterates the alleged bias of the Central Government against Uttarakhand. It states, “Since the BJP-led NDA Government assumed office at the Centre, consistent cuts in the budgetary allocations to Uttarakhand have created financial trouble for the State. The Central Government has not yet approved the demand for `1,000 crore submitted by Uttarakhand for the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.”
