Congress members rallied to the Collectorate on Sunday and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the District Magistrate criticising various aspects of the BJP-led NDA Government’s one year in office at the Centre. They alleged that the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to fulfill most of its election promises and was treating Uttarakhand with a bias.
led by Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Jot Singh Bisht and other party leaders, the party members congregated at Congress Bhawan on Sunday morning. From here they rallied to the district magistrate’s ofice where they submitted a memorandum addressed to the president.
In the memorandum, the Congress members have stated that the BJP had promised to bring the rising level of expense under control within 100 days of coming to power but though prices have decreased in the wholesale market but the prices of essential items have increased upto two times in the retail market. The Congress members said, “The BJP used to talk of strengthening national security but after forming government at the centre it has slashed the defence budget by about Rs6,000 crore.
The Centre has talked a lot of Namami Gange programme for cleaning the national river in the last nine months but when it comes to budgetary allocation, not a single rupee has been allocated to the states concerned so far under this programme. The centre is claiming that provision for Rs20,000 crore will be made in this year’s budget but the proposals sent by Uttarakhand Government have not been approved by the centre so far.
The State Government had sent proposals amounting to Rs10,000 crore to the Central Government for works aimed at cleaning and preserving the Ganga and its tributaries including Alaknanda, Mandakini, Pindar, Tons, Yamuna, Kali, Nayar, Bhilangana, Sarayu, Ramganga and other rivers originating in Uttarakhand. The Centre should accord its approval to these proposals. Before coming to power the BJP had talked a lot about revoking section 370 and the Ram temple issue but these sensitive issues have been put on the back burner since it formed government at the Centre,” said Cong members.
