The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay has written a letter to CM Harish Rawat, requesting him to include the Statehood movement in Uttarakhand’s education curriculum.
According to the PCC chief spokesman Mathuradatt Joshi, in the letter to the chief minister, the party state chief has pointed out that the State’s intelligentsia and various sections of society have been demanding consistently from time to time that the Uttarakhand statehood movement be included in the State’s education curriculum at various levels. Upadhyay stated in the letter that the chief minister himself too had played a part in the Statehood movement. He states, “Achievement of Statehood through a non-violent movement has also set an example. Despite many struggles faced by the people of Uttarakhand, they have maintained harmony and peace apart from consistently protecting the rivers and forests of the State that sustain about 600 lakh people in the nation. Considering this, it is very essential for the coming generations of the State to have knowledge of the Statehood movement,” he stated.
