Demanding an “immediate” dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Technical University (PTU) Rajneesh Arora, Punjab Congress on Monday also demanded an inquiry by the Central probe agency or a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts into the large scale bungling of funds to benefit Punjab’s RSS and BJP leaders.
Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, in a communication to Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil, said that Punjab Technical University was suffering from rampant corruption which is unprecedented in any university in the country.
“In the light of directions given by the Punjab and Haryana High Courts on July 8 for reexamination of extension of Vice-Chancellor by Board of Governors, it has become necessary to look at the issue from administrative angle,” he added.
Bajwa added that Arora was so busy in malpractices that he had no time to look into general administration and as a result, admissions to Punjab Technical University were banned by Delhi High Court for fleecing students.
“Future of 50,000 students of distance learning programme, mostly from weaker sections and rural areas, is at stake. University would loose Rs200 crore due to ban. And the students passed out of Punjab Technical University would carry a stigma affecting their career in jobs,” he added.
