Congress lures rebel candidates

Published on:

To deal with rebels, who filed nomination paper against the Congress candidate, State Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has convinced them that they will be given daayitva (political posts) by the State in near future.

With an assurance most of them have withdrawn their nomination paper on Monday. By doing this, the Congress has tried its best to control the damage in ongoing local body polls.

Now question is being raised that these rebels were visible so government has managed to lure them, but how PCC or government will cope up with invisible rebels, who have shown their clout by defeating congress candidate Saket Bahuguna in Tehri lok Sabha by poll in October 2012. If they manage them then situation may improve otherwise situation may become tough. Although congress party observer Maj Ved Prakash has given enough hint that party real concern is how to deal with rebel which is why he appealed their party workers to be united while launching their election office in Dehradun on Monday.

Sources has expressed apprehension over the assurances or lurements, which were given to the rebels by the government or PCC. For instance, in 2009 Kinner Rajni Rawat, who was contesting general election on Tehri Parliamentary Seat, was convinced with an assurance that she would be given a ticket in Assembly election-2012 but she was denied during Assembly election.

Now three senior leaders including Manorma Dobriyal Sharma, Vishal Dobhal and Ashok Verma, who were seeking ticket for the Dehradun Municipal Corporation Mayor seat, were given assurance that they would be accommodated as chairman or deputy chairman of the committee by the State.

Although two Manorma Sharma and Vishal Dobhal had withdrawn their nomination paper on Monday but Ashok Verma did not file nomination paper on April 12.

Sources further said that by withdrawing their nomination two leaders have shown their true picture. It seems they did not have guts to face election as an individual otherwise they would have not withdrawn their nomination paper.

For instance cabinet Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani, whom party had denied ticket from Deoprayag Assembly seat during assembly election-2012, won the seat as an independent candidate and now everybody knows how much powerful he is.
