Even as the State Government is stressing that strike is not the solution to issues of sanitation workers, the Congress party reiterated its support to the striking sanitation workers on Tuesday. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh and vice president Suryakant Dhasmana along with other party leaders met the protesting workers and expressed solidarity. Talking to media persons, Singh said, “We are here to support the workers as all their demands are valid. We will also try to contact officials concerned to find a way to meet the demands of the striking workers as soon as possible.”
Dhasmana blamed the state government for the present state of affairs in the provisional state capital. “Heaps of garbage now dot the city mainly because the state government and chief minister have failed to discharge their duty properly. Their failure has created problems for workers as well as for the residents of the city,” he added.
However, sanitation workers’ leader Rajesh Kumar said that though they were thankful for the support, they do not need politics to be mixed with the issue. “All we need is that our demands be met and our problems be solved,” he said.
