A statement made by Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kishore Upadhyaya about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother has started a round of demonstrations and retaliatory protests in the State.
The Congress members burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi accusing the Centre of adopting apathetic attitude towards Uttarakhand and in retaliation to BJP members burning Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kishore Upadhyaya in effigy for his comments on the PM’s mother.
Congress members congregated at the Astley Hall intersection and protested against the BJP-led Central Government. The PCC programme in-charge Rajendra Shah said that instead of facilitating funds for development of Uttarakhand, the BJP leaders and impeding efforts of the State Government.
Meanwhile, addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan, PCC spokesperson Sunita Prakash criticised the statements being made by BJP leaders in response to Upadhyaya’s statements. She justified the PCC chief’s statements stating that the Central Government had ignored Uttarakhand where the Ganga originates.
“The people of Uttarakhand voted for Modi by electing five MPs in the lok Sabha elections and even Modi had vowed to work for Ganga conservation. However, the Central Government has now become apathetic towards Uttarakhand,” she said.
On Tuesday Upadhyaya had said that though he wishes Modi’s mother a long life, everyone has to die someday and if after her death Modi comes to immerse her ashes in the Ganga at Haridwar, goddess Ganga might reject these considering his apathy towards Uttarakhand.
