Congress mahanagar committee president slammed the Central government for the National Highway’s unsound condition.
Congress Mahanagar Committee president Anshul Shrikunj has blamed the BJP-led Central government for the poor state of the National Highway leading to traffic snarls every now and then in the holy city. The Congress leader lambasted the BJP Government saying that inspite of the good arrangements made by the state government to increase tourism in the state, the National Highway was in shambles which was creating traffic jams on weekends and snan days.
Speaking to the Pioneer, Anshul Shrikunj said, “Char dham pilgrimage is at its zenith and hordes of pilgrims are heading to Haridwar, the gateway of gods and other places of interest but they spend lot of time on road while crossing Har Ki Pauri stretch and beyond on the National highway.”
He said that minister for highways Nitin Gadkari speaks of spreading a network of roads but the project initiated long back to broaden the Dehradun Haridwar national highway is still far from completion.
He said after three years of hard work of CM Harish Rawat to bring back the life of state people on track after the Kedar tragedy, pilgrims have shown their faith in the state tourism and a magnanimous crowd is expected this season as has been seen in the early few days of Char dham yatra but the highway crawl is a major setback to the pilgrims. “Intentionally the road work has been stopped by the BJP led central government to send a grim picture to the tourists.”
