local leaders of the Congress and BJP have started using various kinds of tactics to get their candidate elected to the post of the Uttarkashi district Panchayat head. However, the parties have not yet been able to finalise the names of their respective candidates to be fielded as candidates in the election to the post of the district Panchayat head. Since this post is reserved for an OBC woman candidate, both parties have a limited choice of leaders.
The names of the candidates for the Uttarkashi District Panchayat president’s post have started making the rounds. From BJP, Vimla Nautiyal, elected to the District Panchayat from Bangaon ward is staking claim for the District Panchayat president’s post from the Bhagirathi valley. She had also contested the 2007 Assembly election on a BJP ticket. In the Yamuna valley the BJP’s authorised candidate Yashoda Rana, winner from Paunti ward is a claimant. In the past, she was the president of the Badkot Nagar Panchayat.
From the Congress, Anita Bisht elected from Gajna ward in Dunda block and Rewati Rana winner from Jakholi ward in Kimori block are the major claimants for the post of the district Panchayat head.
