To protest against the ‘anti-public’ policies of the Central Government and rising level of expense, the Mahila Congress, NSUI and Youth Congress will take out rallies in district headquarters on Saturday. The protesters will burn the Central Government in effigy and present garlands of onion for the Prime Minister to protest against the rise in prices of essential commodities. The Mahila Congress State president and MlA Sarita Arya said this while addressing the media in Dehradun on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya said that the cost of essential commodities had been consistently rising at the State and national levels but the Central Government headed by prime minister Narendra Modi had so far failed to take any effective action to control price rise. She said, “With rapid and consistent price rise the cost of some pulses had risen to about `190 per kilogramme while the cost of onions too had become too steep for the common masses to afford regularly without facing problems. Onion which is used in almost all of the dishes generally cooked by the people is now costing upto `60 per kg, which has made it difficult even for the middle class women to run their kitchen properly. To protest against this, we will prepare garlands from onions and send these to the prime minister. The Central Government has totally failed to exert any type of control on the rising price levels while the cut back in the price of diesel and petrol has also been negligible. The BJP led Central Government is focusing mainly on ensuring the welfare of capitalists,” alleged the Mahila Congress State president.
