The Congress party cadre should come out strong to achieve resounding success in the Satat Vikas Sankalp Yatra starting from the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi - November 19. The Congress is in election mode and during election time there are moments when the conditions are akin to situations during the time of battle, said the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay. He was speaking at a meeting of all the party’s office bearers and heads of various units in the Kumaon region and party leaders held in the Swaraj Ashram in Haldwani on Friday.
Works being undertaken by the party were discussed in detail during the meeting including commemoration of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary on November 19 with the start of the Satat Vikas Sankalp Yatra (SVSY) of the Congress. It was “unanimously decided” that party workers from across the State will work enthusiastically to make the multi-faceted SVSY a resounding success.
The aim of the undertaking is to go to the masses and expose the alleged misdeeds of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its intentions detrimental to the welfare of the public. This political journey will pass through 70 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in the five lok Sabha constituencies of Uttarakhand.
All Indian Congress Committee senior leaders, Cabinet Ministers and MlAs will also take part in this programme.
Addressing the gathering, Upadhyay exhorted party leaders to come forward and commit themselves to ensuring successful organisation of SVSY. He said, “The Congress party is working in election mode. Election time is the time of situations akin to war-like conditions. We will have to understand the moves and character of the BJP, the manner in which the BJP-led Union Government orchestrated a conspiracy and used undemocratic means to bring down a popular State Government on March 18, 2016. In the same manner, the central leadership of the BJP is once again conspiring to bring down the Congress-led State Government in Uttarakhand. The BJP wants to use falsehood to misguide the people of Uttarakhand and form its Government in the State,” said the PCC chief. Appreciating the active participation of the party workers in protest movements held by the PCC in the recent past, Upadhyay expressed confidence that the party will make its presence felt to the BJP in Uttarakhand with resounding success in the SVSY. The PCC chief alleged that faulty economic policies at the centre had resulted in financial loss amounting to about Rs 3,500 crore to Uttarakhand.
Addressing the meeting, senior party leader, Cabinet Minister and Haldwani MlA Indira Hridayesh said that the State Government had taken various decisions and undertaken varied measures for the welfare of the public but these need to be publicised. She further averred that the Congress was the only party which had talked of development and worked towards taking the State further on the road to development.
