Terming the recent incidents of reported misbehaviour by Bharatiya Janata Party MlAs as an embarrassment for Uttarakhand, the Congress has decided to stage protests across the State by burning the the BJP in effigy on Tuesday. The Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh has accused elected MlAs of the BJP of goondaism and violence in different parts of the State.

The PCC chief has strongly condemned such incidents reportedly carried out by BJP MlAs in Rudrapur, Jhabreda and other parts of the State. He alleged that by such actions, the MlAs were conspiring to disturb the law and order situation and create an atmosphere of anarchy in the State. The State of Uttarakhand has been embarrassed by such actions of elected public representatives, he added.

Singh said that in a democratic nation like India, all have the right to voice their opinion in a non-violent manner. However, the BJP MlAs are blatantly disturbing the law and order situation by indulging in acts of violence which are building an atmosphere of anarchy in the State. He said that recent examples of such actions were displayed by Jhabreda MlA Deshraj Karnwal who reportedly misbehaved with Dalit women and the Rudrapur MlA Rajkumar Thukral who verbally abused and manhandled staff at a toll plaza. The PCC chief said, “Earlier, the BJP MlA from Gadarpur had manhandled a person from the scheduled caste which had exposed the anti-Dalit face of BJP leaders and their mental bankruptcy. The BJP MlAs have lost their mental balance due to which they are indulging in violence and using objectionable language with the general public and members of the Dalit community. The Congress party strongly condemns such misbehaviour of the BJP MlAs.

The Vidhan Sabha membership of such legislators should be terminated,” he said. To protest against the actions of the BJP MlAs and the resulting disruption of the law and order situation in the state, Congress workers will burn the BJP in effigy in the district headquarters across the state on Tuesday on the directions of the PCC chief.
