Police have denied permission to the landhaura to Roorkee Sadbhavna rally to be staged by Congress to counter the one planned by BJP at Rishikul grounds to be addressed by the BJP president Amit Shah, three days ahead of the proposed rally, citing lack of adequate force to deal with two rallies on the same day. Importantly, communal violence broke out at landhaura town on June 1. Haridwar police expressed its inability on account of inadequate force to maintain law and order if both the rallies are held simultaneously. A report has been submitted to the district administration by the SP rural of Haridwar, stating that allowing the Congress rally would not be safe from the security point of view in view of BJP staging a rally in Haridwar the same day. State Congress president Kishore Upadhyay had announced a Sadbhavna rally from landhaura to Roorkee on June 25 evidently as a counter to the proposed rally of BJP. Speaking to The Pioneer, SP rural Parmendra Dobhal said, “We have submitted our report to the district administration. On account of pre- scheduled BJP rally on the same day as June 25, most of the police personnel will be deployed for its smooth conduct. It could be risky if another rally is allowed to be staged.” Though the situation is under control in landhaura town at present police are not ready to take any chance.
