In a rebut to the BJP alleging harassment of its MlAs and leaders by the Congress-led State Government, Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s media-in-charge Surendra Kumar released details of police cases lodged against three BJP MlAs. Though Kumar cited this information as evidence of the BJP harbouring criminals, he refrained from naming these three MlAs on the record. Referring to the BJP MlAs by serial numbers, Kumar stated that there were 29 cases lodged against MlA number one, 25 cases against MlA number two and five cases against MlA number three. In a statement released to the media Kumar stated, “While one leader is still in Tihar jail in the case of liquor barons being shot at a farm house in Delhi, another leader is in Dehradun jail on charges of raping a dalit woman. Some BJP leaders were also suspected in the theft of Rs 27 lakh from the BJP State head quarters. Cases of various serious crimes are lodged against BJP leaders who will be named in the list to be released in the next stage,” he said.
