Cong prods BJP to make Gairsain State's Capital

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kishore Upadhyay has said that Parliament is empowered to declare Gairsain as the Capital of Uttarakhand and with the BJP in majority at the Centre, it should facilitate this to justify its claim of having been instrumental in the creation of Uttarahkand State. He also appreciated BJP party workers for asking the party’s national president Amit Shah “questions which the PCC had also asked in the past without eliciting a response”.

Addressing the media here on Monday, the PCC chief said that the State had already started construction of Assembly building at Gairsain and now the BJP-led NDA Government should use its authority to declare Gairsain the State capital in Parliament. “The PCC had asked various questions of the Centre for which we got no reply. I appreciate BJP party workers for asking these questions to their national president Amit Shah during his recent Dehradun visit. At a time when the Central Government has not provided any financial assistance to Uttarakhand for the 2016 Ardh Kumbh, Swachh Bharat mission or Namami Gange, we would also like to know why still about 40 per cent of land and major water reservoirs in Uttarakhand are owned by Uttar Pradesh,” said Upadhyay.

He further said that the PCC will stage protest in all district headquarters on Wednesday and submit memorandum to the district magistrate against hike in price of petroleum products. The first meeting of the PCC will be held in Gairsain, he added.
