Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of orchestrating its conspiracy to stoke communal tension and violence in landhaura, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay said that the Congress party office bearers and activists will take out a ‘peace march’ in landhaura on June 25.

He further alleged that attempts were being made to spark off violence in the area in order to bring about deterioration of law and order situation to enable imposition of the president’s rule yet again in Uttarakhand.

Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan here on Tuesday, the PCC chief alleged that the BJP was responsible for the violence which took place at landhaura in the recent past. Attempts are still being made to cause deterioration in the law and order situation in the area to bring the State under president’s rule, he averred.

Upadhyay stressed that the Congress will not let those with ulterior motives succeed in the conspiracy to spark off a repeat of the rioting. He said that in order to undertake a non-violent protest against the purported role of BJP in the landhaura violence, Congress party office bearers and party workers from across the State will take out a “peace march” at landhaura on

June 25.

The peaceful show of solidarity against those trying to stir up violence is also aimed at providing a reassurance to the people of landhaura and giving them a sense of security, said the PCC chief. He further said that after the “peace rally” in landhaura, the Congress party office bearers and party workers will reach Ranikhet in Almora district to participate in a planned meet of the Congress.

Earlier, on June 18, the PCC will be holding a meeting of its office bearers in Dehradun to discuss the plan and other details pertaining to the proposed programme for felicitation of party MlAs and others who stood with the Congress during the recent political machinations and imposition of President’s rule in the State, opined the PCC chief.

Upadhyay also repeated the slew of allegations repeatedly levelled by the Congress at the BJP-led Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further alleged that the Centre has introduced budgetary cuts for Uttarakhand which are causing financial problems for the State in meeting its requirement for implementation of various welfare measures and developmental works.
