The Mahila Congress is a strong link in the Congress party and has played an important role in the history of the party. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay stated this while addressing a meeting of the Dehradun Mahanagar Mahila Congress in the presence of Pradesh Mahila Congress president and MlA Sarita Arya here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCC chief said the Mahila Congress should have a separate identity in Uttarakhand. “Women workers of the party have played an important role in preparing an army of trained party workers for strengthening the party. The Mahila Congress had an important role in the Congress’ return to power after the defeats in 1978, 1980 and 1991. The women workers of the Congress will again have to play an important role in the 2017 Assembly elections and prepare themselves to raise public awareness on the achievements of the State Government. Mahila Congress members will be present at each booth and also work to place 10 strong party workers in each Assembly constituency for doing their bit in raising awareness on the State Government’s public welfare schemes,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Sarita Arya said the women’s organisation across the State will be formed afresh in the near future.Praising the performance of the Congress-led State Government during its three years in office so far, Arya claimed that the State Government is committed to fulfilling the promises made by the Congress for development of the State and welfare of the people.
