'Cong-led Govt playing politics in time of disaster'

The leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Bhatt on Friday criticised the Congress-led State Government for playing politics in the time of disaster as if it were campaigning for elections.

He stressed that the State Government will prove itself to be a failure if it fails to provide relief to the thousands of villagers who have faced the brunt of the disaster and have been left without ration and relief measures. Addressing a Press conference held in the Vidhan Sabha, the BJP leader said that the ground reality in the disaster hit areas of the state was something very different than being claimed by the State Government.

He said that the roads along the Char Dham Yatra route were badly damaged and the higher parts of Uttarakhand were facing acute shortage of food grains and situation was equally worst in the disaster hit areas of the state. He claimed that 136 Gram Panchyats were facing acute shortage of food grains and the situation would have deteriorated if the Army and NDRF had not been called in to carry out rescue operation.

Bhatt said that among all the disaster-hit areas of the state, Uttarkashi district was the worst affected and the Congress-led State Government did not take any precautionary steps after the district had faced the brunt of flood, last year. He also demanded from the State Government to register criminal case against those Government officials who failed to perform their duties as per the requirement.

Bhatt also urged the State Government to declare Yamunotri as no-man area as roads and other establishments were badly damaged in the region.

He further said the maintenance and repairing of roads was rests with the BRO but the condition of BRO was also equally very bad. He said BRO was facing acute shortage of funds, latest equipment and JCB machines thus hampering their efforts to carry repair and maintenance works in the higher parts of the state. It is noteworthy that Ajay Bhatt along with BJP national secretary TS Rawat were a on four day tour to the disaster hit areas of Uttarakhand.
