Asha Dobriyal Sharma, a State Congress leader and daughter-in-law of late Congress MP from Rajya Sabha, Manorama Dobriyal Sharma, said that Raj Babbar, who had been elected to the Upper House of the Parliament from the State following her mother-in-law’s demise in February this year, has been doing a good job in furthering the interests of Uttarakhand. She made the appreciative remark of the actor-turned politician while addressing a Press conference in Dehradun.
“After Raj Babbar was sworn in speculations did the rounds over whether he would carry things forward left unfinished by the deceased leader. We apprehended that he would leave things aside and act on his own agenda. But he proved the speculations wrong. He is following in the footsteps of Manoramaji and providing all help to fulfill her pledges,” she said.
She said Raj Babbar had adopted her village laambagad and also her ancestral village Ghehed and released funds for constructing roads there.
“He released `8 lakh for constructing roads in the Cantonment area and Kaulagarh, Shanti Vihar area in Dehradun. Besides, `7 lakh was released for constructing extra rooms and providing computer and furniture for Guru Nanak Girls Inter College located in Khurbura,” the state Congress leader said.
“Other than this, he provided `20 lakh for installing 20 solar lights in 10 different places in laambagad. Sums of `8 lakh, `3.8 lakh, `5 lakh and `6 lakh were released for construction of trails inside forests, drains, community centers and walls of graveyards respectively,” she said. “The work is now on in most of the places. However, some are yet to taken up. We are sure they would start soon,” she said.
