In protest against what it termed anti youth policies of the state government, the Uttarakhand Congress held state wide protest on Saturday.

As part of the protest, the general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and former chief minister Harish Rawat held Dharna at his residence while the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh along with other Congress leaders held a protest at Rajiv Bhawan.

The state unit of the party had given a call of ‘Trivendra Rawat, Rojgar Do, Varna Gaddhi Chodo’ (Trivendra Rawat either give employment or leave the chair) on Saturday.

Launching an attack on the state government on the issue of unemployment, the PCC president Pritam Singh said that the BJP in the elections of 2017 had made unemployment a major election issue and promised that it would fill the vacant posts in the departments and corporations if it comes to power in the state.

He said that in the last four years the unemployed of the state have not seen even the recruitment advertisement.  Singh said that thousands of posts are vacant in the police, forest, health and education departments but the state government has not started any process to fill these posts.  He said that a sense of dejection and anger against the state government prevails among the youth. The unemployed are now looking at the Congress party with hope. Singh said that the Congress party would now unite the unemployed and would throw BJP out of power in the state.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress party, Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the Trivendra Singh Rawat government of Uttarakhand has cheated the youth of the state.

He said that thousands of posts in different departments are vacant but the state government is not prepared to fill them.

He said that the unemployed of the state are forced to leave the state and the mountainous areas are increasingly deserted.

Former minister Soorveer Singh Sajwan, former MLA Rajkumar, Rajendra Shah, Garima Dasauni, Lal Chand Sharma, P K Agarwal, Kamlesh Raman and others addressed the Dharna.
