Joining the BJP’s high-pitched anti-Congress chorus, blaming the grand old party for the virtual washout of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar alleged in Dehradun on Friday that Congress does not want to see the nation progress. “This is why they have felt no qualms while reducing the important session to a washout,” he said.
Stressing on the passage of GST in the Parliament, he said that once enforced, it would trigger tremendous growth of state GDP. “It would grow by 1.2 to 1.5 percent. Congress is aware of this and this is why they created ruckus inside the Houses, using a non-issue involving the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj unabashedly,” he said. Parrikar likened Congress to a pampered boy from whom his toy has been snatched. “ Congress is yet to adapt itself to being out of power to the woe of the country and its progress,” he said.
“Congress’s shenanigans were clear as they were unwilling to listen to Sushma Swaraj defending herself against the vilification campaign launched against her. Their strange logic is like this- punish her before she is listened to,”
he said.
He reminded that BJP- led NDA Government is working very hard to push the country forward in terms of development. “We have executed several works in the last one year. For instance, when 18 jawans lost their lives in ambush attack in the northeast we retaliated promptly against the militants. Such kind of decisive action raises the country’s credibility in the international forum,” he said.
“Congress got scared as it knew that the Centre was set to pass several constructive acts, particularly that related to GST, in both the Houses. This is why they stopped proceedings. Sectarian politics got the better of national development, a mindset that bodes ill for the country,” he said.
Dwelling on GST, he said the tragedy was that it had been drafted during UPA regime. “But now, out of power, they are stone-walling things. GST would eradicate black money. Now, the businessmen pay several types of taxes and this is what prods them to do things unlawfully to evade taxes, resulting in the proliferation of black money. Once enacted, GST would make goods cheaper while plugging the loopholes in the system,” he said.
Speaking of the lalit Modi case, Parrikar said the erstwhile UPA regime had lodged a case under FEMA and issued light blue corner notice to Modi. “Had they been really serious to have him arrested they should have tagged him with Money laundering Act. We have initiated the same on July 26 and his arrest is now a matter of time,” he said.
Queried over why BJP and allies had allowed Congress to hold the Parliament hostage, he said they were for exposing the anti-progress face of the party.
Parrikar averred that the nation’s economy will grow by 10 percent. “ Currently, it is seven to eight percent,” he said.DEHRADUN-Joining BJP’s high-pitched anti-Congress chorus, blaming the grand old party for the virtual washout of the monsoon session of the Parliament, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar alleged in Dehradun on Friday that Congress does not want to see the nation progress. “This is why they have felt no qualms while reducing the important session to a washout,” he said.
