A delegation of the Congress councillors and activists led by Mahanagar president of the party Lal Chand Sharma met the municipal commissioner Dehradun, Vijay Kumar Jogdande on Friday and demanded the decision to increase the house tax by 20 percent be revoked.
Terming the hike as unjustified, Sharma said that three years ago, the parameters of charging house tax had been changed from the rent system to the covered area which ensured a five-time increase in tax.
He further warned that the Congress would be forced to start an agitation if the decision is not revoked in the public interest promptly.
The delegation later handed over a memorandum containing their demand to the commissioner.
