Congress men demonstrated against the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun demanding beautification of the Clock Tower park without delay. They warned that if the beautification work is not started soon, they will demonstrate against the Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli at MCD next week. Heading the protest, Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana said that the Clock Tower is an important location situation in the heart of the city. The MCD is responsible for the dilapidated condition of the park around the Clock Tower by not working actively on its beautification.
The boundary of the park is broken and the park is not properly maintained but the corporation has remained apathetic to this. He averred that the ONGC had repeatedly written to the MCD in a period of five years for expressing its willingness to facilitate the beautification of this park but the corporation had not responded proactively. The park has become a haunt of undesirable elements with even tents being pitched in the park.
The tents were removed by the MCD following media reports. Dhasmana alleged that the Mayor is not respecting public sentiments and has done little towards facilitating concrete development in Dehradun during his present tenure so far. If beautification of the park is not started soon, the Mayor will be gheraoed at MCD after one week, he added.
