A Congress delegation met the Governor Krishan Kant Paul and submitted a memorandum to him expressing concern at the situation in the nation and State allegedly due to flaws in the Governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party Governments at the Centre and State. The Congress delegation headed by Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh submitted a memorandum to the Governor focused on three main issues.
In the memorandum, the Congress alleged that recent incidents of rape and murder in different parts of the country had fuelled an atmosphere of insecurity. Women are feeling unsafe under a BJP government, said the Congress members while requesting the governor to convey their concern to the Central and State governments while issuing directions for making proper arrangements for the safety of women across the state.
Singh further said that since the BJP had formed government in the state, public representatives from the opposition parties were being harassed consistently on the directions of the State.
On the directions of the state government cases were being lodged in an undemocratic manner against Congress MlAs and elected public representatives.
He said, “In the Madkot area of Pithoragarh district, the contractor working on construction of embankment for flood safety through the irrigation department is being threatened for depositing royalty. When the local MlA and other public representatives complained about this to the administrative officers, a case was lodged in an undemocratic manner against the MlA. The local administration misbehaving with and arresting the local MlA is cause for serious concern.
The Congress party strongly condemns the misbehaviour with opposition MlAs and hurdles being created in execution of developmental works in their constituencies. There is deep resentment in the Congress cadre due to the mistreatment of the elected MlA by the district authorities. The Dharchula MlA has also brought to notice that illegal mining and bootlegging is continuing in his area under police protection. Congress members protesting against this are being harassed.
Instead of taking action on the complaints, the district administration is following directions from the state government to harass the public representatives belonging to the Congress. At the same time, hurdles are being created in the execution of developmental works approved in public interest,” said the PCC chief. Singh further said that the unseasonal rain and hail had caused severe damage to fruit, vegetables and Rabi crops in the state. Farmers in the state are already suffering under the burden of bank loans and some of them have also committed suicide.
In such a situation, the problems caused by the weather will weaken the farmers financially and psychologically.
The Congress party demands adequate compensation from the government to the farmers for the damage to the crops caused by the recent climatic conditions.
He requested the Governor to direct the state government to take necessary steps on these issues. Former cabinet ministers Dinesh Agarwal, Rajendra Singh Bhandari, PCC vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, MlA Manoj Rawat, Mahila Congress state president Sarita Arya and other party leaders were part of the delegation which called upon the Governor.
