Cong confident of victory in Tharali

The Congress party state in charge Anugrah Narayan Singh opined that the Congress candidate Jeet Ram will win the Tharali Assembly bypoll as the party has been receiving the support of the public there. At the same time, the leader of opposition and Haldwani MlA Indira Hridayesh alleged that a representative of the chief minister was trying to induce voters with cash. They said this while addressing the media here on Thursday.

Expressing confidence in the scope for Congress victory in Tharali, Singh said that the people of the state had realised that after the Bharatiya Janata Party government was elected to office in Uttarakhand, no major work had been done for the welfare of the public. Referring to the political developments in Karnataka, he alleged that the BJP was indulging in unconstitutional actions in that state. He opined that the BJP intended to change the constitution. The BJP should not think that the Congress will sit silently. The Congress will organise protests against the BJP in all district headquarters and Tehsils across India, added Singh.

Addressing the media, Hridayesh alleged that the PRO of the chief minister was going door to door and giving people Rs 5,000 in the name of financial assistance while also asking them to vote in favour of the BJP. However, the voters will crush the arrogance of the BJP in the Tharali Assembly bypolls, she added. Hridayesh said that the developmental works started by the previous Congress State Government had been stalled by the BJP government after it assumed office. Stating that the BJP takes delight in vendetta politics, she said that various major projects started by the previous State Government had been closed down to the detriment of the public.
