The Congress has welcomed the High Court order quashing the President’s rule in Uttarakhand on Thursday, with the party leadership citing it as a vindication of the party’s stance questioning the validity of the manner in which the BJP-led Union Government had brought about the imposition of President’s rule in the State.
The Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay said, “The historical decision of the High Court in the context of the imposition of president’s rule in Uttarakhand has reposed the trust of the public on the nation’s democratic system and the country’s judicial system”.
Talking to The Pioneer, the PCC chief said, “This historical decision of the High Court is such that we are not able to find words to salute and thank the Indian judiciary system which has set a historical example of democratic principles. The High Court order quashing the imposition of president’s rule in Uttarakhand has set a historical example and maintained the dignity of democracy, voters and the Constitution of India,” said Upadhyay.
Regarding the status resulting from the High Court decision, the PCC chief said that “the factual situation is that the State Government is in existence with Harish Rawat as Chief Minister”. When asked about the strength of the Congress in the Vidhan Sabha, the PCC chief said, “The nine turncoat MlAs are not MlAs anymore following their earlier disqualification. The Congress party in Uttarakhand is confident that it will prove its strength comfortably on its own in the Vidhan Sabha,” added Upadhyay.
