After alleging that the Congress-led State Government misused the government machinery during civic polls, BJP Uttarakhand chief Tirath Singh Rawat said that the Congress candidates violated the model code of conduct during civic polls.
He also claimed that BJP candidates will comfortably win five out of six municipal corporations and 35-40 municipal council and town areas seats in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand.
While addressing mediapersons at a press conference held at the State party office in Dehradun on Monday, Rawat expressed concern over the lethargic approach of the State Election Commission for not initiating action against those candidates, who violated model code of conduct during civic polls, despite the memorandum submitted to the commission. “It is a matter of concern that the government officials had acted as agents for the Congress-led state government and did fake voting in the favour of Congress candidates,” he said, adding that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna along with Cabinet Ministers misused government machinery to woo voters during civic polls.
After highlighting the voters’ list was not updated and many voters failed to cast their votes on polling day, Rawat said that there were two lists of voters of Muni-ki-reti and Shishambadi which indicated towards fake voting in large scale. He also alleged that SDM Rishikesh acted like Government agent by not permitting several BJP voters to enter polling booths. He claimed that scores of four wheelers without having number plates were noticed distributing liquor and cash at Rudrapur. Besides, BJP activists were harassed at several places across the State.
According to him, use of Government vehicles by Union Minister Harish Rawat and Congress State Chief Yashpal Arya is a clear violation of the model code of conduct. He said that also termed Congress Government in Uttarakhand as highly disappointing. He also lamented that nothing was done during the period for the development of the state. He also accused the Congress-led Government of playing into the hands of private builders, which was selling precious land meant for development purposes to them at throwaway prices.
He also alleged that the corruption has become the order of the day in Uttarakhand and accused the Congress government in the state of either annulling decisions taken during his tenure to fight graft or putting them into cold storage. Rawat also accused the State Government of selling off precious land meant for industrial purposes to builders in the different districts of the State.
