Senior leaders of the Congress party attended a meeting in the provisional State capital on Thursday to deliberate upon the results of the Vidhan Sabha election 2017. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay, outgoing Chief Minister Harish Rawat, party’s senior MlA and former Cabinet Minister Indira Hridayesh, former Cabinet Ministers Dinesh Aggarwal, Navprabhat, former MlA Tilak Raj Behad, PCC vice president Jot Singh Bisht, the outgoing CM’s wife Renuka Rawat and his son and PCC general secretary Anand Singh Rawat among other party leaders were present in the meeting held to deliberate upon the party’s defeat in the recently held Vidhan Sabha elections. According to the chief spokesman of the Uttarakhand PCC, Mathura Datt Joshi, the senior party leaders discussed the results of the recent Vidhan Sabha elections and also deliberated upon the future course of action to be taken by the party. Along with discussing the position of party as emerging from the recent Vidhan Sabha election, the senior party leaders also deliberated upon the political strategy to be adopted by the party in the future. It was decided in the meeting held on Thursday that the next meeting to be held by the party leaders will involve more detailed deliberation upon the Vidhan Sabha election and the performance of the party in the elections, apart from which the reasons for the defeat of the party will also be reviewed considering factors down to the booth level, informed the PCC chief spokesman.

It should be mentioned here since its defeat in the assembly elections in Uttarakhand with outgoing Chief Minister Harish Rawat also losing from both the constituencies he had contested from, the Congress has been venting its disappointment at the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Recently on March 14, the PCC had organised stated-wide protests against the BJP forming government in the state of Goa. The PCC has alleged that following the results of assembly elections of four states, “the central government under prime minister Narendra Modi is intoxicated by power and hurting the fundamentals of constitutional spirit”.

In another development on Thursday, the PCC president authorised the PCC chief spokesman to speak for the Congress in the print and electronic media. Other spokespersons and office bearers of PCC have been asked to refrain from making any comments to the media, according to a circular issued by the PCC chief spokesman.
