Cong activists yearn to find place in party working committee

Published on:

Disappointed with not finding a place in the much-awaited State Congress working committee formed recently, many State Congress activists are eagerly waiting for the second list to be released by the party. While the party activists who have been given positions in the recently constituted State Congress executive broadcast messages thanking party leadership in the media, some of the party activists who had been anxiously seeking responsibilities in the State party organisation seem to be quite unhappy with the State party leadership.

Figuring of names of kin of some senior party leaders has only come as a disappointing experience for these party members. The disgruntled party leaders here are of the view that the party seems to have only ignored the deserving and ‘hardworking’ party activists. The State Congress party had been able to form a jumbo State working committee appointing more than 100 leaders in the said committee after a gap of nine months since appointment of Kishore Upadhyay as State party chief. There are still many such activists who have honestly worked for the party over the years, but they have not  yet been given any opportunity within the party organisation or  in any other position in Government in the State.

The demand for accommodating party activists in different Government bodies or in the party organisations had started raising within the State Congress after the formation of Congress-led State Government in Uttarakhand in 2012. Though almost all party MlAs and many other party leaders have already been given responsibilities in different Government committees and councils during the past three years, the list of position seekers is still long in the State Congress party.

Keeping in view the party activists’ sentiments in this regard, Chief Minister sought the party central leadership’s approval. However, even after obtaining party high command’s approval in  this regard,  Chief Minister Rawat, has not yet moved ahead to accommodate more  party activists in different Government bodies.

So the party activists are seemingly not happy with this approach of Chief Minister Rawat. Missing of their names from the State working committee list has only disappointed them. As the State Congress party announced to soon release the second list of the party activists while unveiling the first list of the office bearers of the State working commit last month, so  many party activists are eagerly waiting for this list. Giving responsibilities to the party activists is an ongoing process, said Shilpi Arora, general secretary of the state Congress party.  Presently the party is busy in the Bhagwanpur by polls. So after that by election process the State Congress party will take further steps to strengthen the party, added Arora.
