The Congress is confident of securing victory on about 46 Vidhan Sabha constituencies out of 70 constituencies in the State. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay said this while addressing the media in the provisional State capital Dehradun on Thursday. Also present on the occasion, Chief Minister Harish Rawat opined that the volume of money-power seen being used in the Vidhan Sabha election 2017 was a cause for concern.

A day after polling was held in the Vidhan Sabha election 2017, the PCC president addressed the media at the Congress Bhawan thanking the citizens for an overwhelming response in the polling and averred that as per his reckoning, the Congress party would be able to secure victories in at least 46 Assembly constituencies out of the total 70 Assembly constituencies in the State. lambasting the BJP, Upadhyay accused the rival party of negativity in the focus of its election campaign in the state. He went on to accuse the Congress’ chief rival party of resorting to the use of money and muscle power in the state. While also alleging misuse of resources in the elections, he expressed confidence that the people had voted to bring about a stable government in Uttarakhand by voting for the Congress candidates.

Addressing the media at the Press conference,  chief minister Harish Rawat thanked the citizens for coming out to vote in the assembly elections, adding that he was happy at the noticeable improvement in the percentage of polling in the state. Stating that he was hoping that the voters of Uttarakhand had given a decisive mandate in the assembly election, he too criticised the BJP while expressing concern at the large proportion of money put in by the Congress’ main rival party in its election campaign.

Opining that the expenditure of large amount of money in the election campaign by the BJP was not a good thing for Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister further said that the intelligentsia of society should also come forward against such practices which may be detrimental to a healthy democracy and polity. Further criticising political occurrences in the near past, the Chief Minister opined that the BJP had started the orchestration of defection in politics in the state. Opining that defection politics is highly condemnable in democratic polity, he said that the defections machinated purportedly by the BJP were not a healthy sign for politics in the State.
