Rich tribute was paid to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary by Congress on Tuesday. The party leaders and members also embarked on a commemorative march which passed through several parts of the city.

The party workers assembled at the state party office in the morning and offered flowers on the pictures of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri whose birth anniversary also falls on the same day.  The state party in-charge, Anugrah Narayan Singh and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Pritam Singh offered tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. They also unfurled the national flag on the occasion.

Addressing the party workers, Anugrah Narayan Singh said that Gandhiji was a political saint who had set peerless examples of service of the nation and humanity which all must emulate. He also dwelt on the spirit of the time when Gandhi led the freedom movement.  Pritam Singh said that Gandhi was more an idea  than a person. He said that  the mantra of non- violence and peace imparted to the humanity  by Mahatma Gandhi is more relevant in today’s time when violence is raging across the world.

He further said that some forces which had been hostile to Gandhi when he was alive were not appropriating his ideology to destroy it.

Later on the day, the PCC chief participated in a fruit distribution programme at  a Leprosy home located on Mohni Road, Bhagat Singh Colony, Dalanwala. a
