Amid soaring atmospheric temperature, increasing cases of water and vector-borne diseases like diarrhoea come as a cause of concern. Though rise of water and vector borne diseases during this period is very common as the health experts maintained poor state of civic services or unhygienic conditions only give rise to such diseases.
Death of a child due to diarrhoea on Thursday last at the base hospital, Haldwani, only confirmed this belief. The children who are being admitted to the base hospital here for treatment of water and vector borne diseases like diarrhoea are mainly from Haldwani’s Indira Nagar, Safdar Ka Bagicha, Rajpura, neighbouring lalkuan to name a few places.
Cleanliness plays a significant role in preventing such diseases but huge garbage dumps lying every nook and corner, choked drains here tell a different tale. Though civic authorities claimed to conduct routine cleanliness drive, things related to cleanliness and hygiene seemed to have shown little improvement here particularly in busy market places, around hospital premises, slum areas to name.
Though as the doctors attending upon these children maintained that situation is under control saying cases of diarrhoea generally come to light during this period, the adverse weather conditions coupled with unhygienic conditions only give rise to possibility of the water and vector borne diseases in the region as the health experts maintain.
However, the people are also supposed to take necessary precautionary measures to protect themselves and children from diseases in the summer season, maintained doctors. Citizens are also supposed to take care of their dietary habits. Although doctors advise the common people to avoid eating cut fruits and food in open places time to time, yet the people can be seen eating in open places.
However, the health experts have also urged the citizens not to eat stale food during the summer season. Though occasional raids are conducted by the officials concerned to prevent street vendors to sell edible items in open places, selling of the cut fruits and other edible items is still a common affair.
