Compulsory retirement: Edu Dept sets deadline

Published on:

Following the instruction of the State Education Minister, the Education Department of Uttarakhand has started the process of identifying the teachers and employees for compulsory retirement. The department has set up a deadline of June 30 by which these teachers/employees would be given compulsory retirement.

In an order, the  (DG) of School education, Captain Alok Shekhar Tiwari has directed the Additional Directors both Garhwal and Kumaon, all Chief Education Officers (CEO) and District Education Officers (DEO) to immediately constitute screening committees for the purpose of identifying and handing out compulsory retirement to such teachers or employees who are not physically and mentally fit.

In his order the DG said that the screening committees should identify such employees by June 15. Education Minister Arvind Pandey has convened a meeting of the Education Department officials on May 25, the DG has directed the officers to present in the meeting with the information about constitution of the screening committees.

The DG has said that there are a large number of such employees in the department who are unable to discharge their duties properly  for long periods due to their fitness issues. The department has cited a Government Order (GO) of January 2002 in which the provision of compulsory retirement from the service is made.

In another important decision the department has decided that all schools of the State would be involved in the campaign to make the State fully literate.  CM Trivendra Singh Rawat has taken a pledge to make 100 per cent literate by the year 2019.

In an order the DG has directed that the heads of the schools with the help of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school and students would identify and shortlist illiterate people of the area. The schools are ordered to take a target of making at least four persons literate per month.

The Government schools of the State would also remain open on June 21 on the occasion of International Yoga day despite the fact that the day falls during the summer vacations. The DG has also directed that on every Saturday the schools should undertake a sanitation campaign.

On May 25 a Water conservation day would be celebrated in all the schools.
