Committed to protect bovine progeny: CM

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has categorically declared that Bovine Progeny Conservation Act, passed during the 2007-12 BJP regime, will be strictly implemented in the State. “My Government is committed to protect the bovine progeny. That is why we have decided to enforce the act on the ground seriously,” he said while addressing a press conference in Dehradun on Monday. Notably, Rawat was the State animal husbandry Minister when the act was passed.

He also said that the officers who have been receiving connectivity facility at the Government’s expense will   have to take the public calls or else they would face the consequences. He instructed them through the media to put no excuse for their failure to act on the order of the State Government. “We are committed to providing the people with responsive governance, sensitive to the interests of the people,” CM said. He also sought constructive support of the media in their mission to give a people-friendly Government. He also made it clear that the unholy nexus between the bureaucrats and the mafia would not be brooked.

He said that to give fillip to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project Namami Gange, envisaged to maintain the natural flow of Ganga while freeing it from pollutants, his Government has launched the sanitation drive across the State on Monday, just a day after it was sworn in.  Notably, the CM is the national convener of Namami Gange project. He along with his cabinet colleague Madan Kaushik led the drive at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar with other members of the council of ministers launching it in different parts of the State.

Expressing concern over migration continuing unabated, CM said that the State sharing international boundaries with two countries, checking migration is an imperative for strategic reasons too. “We would firm up a comprehensive policy on the matter on the basis of the inputs the defence personnel get from the local populace. For this, we would also seek voluntary support from the non- resident Uttarakhandis. The experts and the ex-servicemen would be involved too,” he added.

He also said that even industries have migrated from the State, while dubbing it as a serious development. “We would firm up a policy to check this trend too. We must delve deep into the matter to understand what is prodding the industrialists to leave the State,” Rawat said.

He mentioned the whopping figure of Rs 43,000 crore the State has been carrying as debt. “We must do something to increase the volume of resource collection to tide over the crisis. If necessary, we would go for tough austerity measures to curb the trend of profligacy,” CM said.

He further said that his Government would open the Kandi route to facilitate the people of Kumaon to go to Garhwal or vice versa without using the roads passing through Uttar Pradesh. “It would make movement from one division to another much easier while binding them in a warmer bond,” he said.

Quizzed on the dispute between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over distribution of assets, CM said that now, the same party Government running the Centre and the two States, the long-pending  dispute would be resolved  soon and amicably too.
